Where can coaches park in Cologne?

Coaches can park free of charge at Kuhweg or use the paid P5 car park in Deutz. For passenger drop-off and pick-up near Cologne Cathedral, use the designated coach stop on Gereonstraße. A separate arrangement applies during the 2026 Christmas market period, with arrivals directed to the Koelnmesse P22 car park.

These are the main locations to consider:

• Kuhweg coach park: Kuhweg 20, 50735 Köln. Free, open 24 hours and unguarded. Allow approximately eight to ten minutes to walk to Slabystraße station, depending on where you park. Tram line 18 then takes around ten minutes to Cologne Central Station.
• P5 car park in Deutz: Gummersbacher Straße 4, 50679 Köln. The operator lists a charge of €1 per 30 minutes. The car park closes completely for Kölner Haie ice hockey games, and other events may cause partial or full closures. Allow approximately eight to ten minutes to walk to Deutz Technische Hochschule station. From there, lines 1 and 9 take around five minutes to Heumarkt.
• Gereonstraße coach stop: For passenger drop-off and pick-up only. The maximum stopping time is 15 minutes, and engines must be switched off. Coaches must park elsewhere while the group explores the city.
• Koelnmesse P22 car park: The designated arrival point under the Christmas coach arrangements from 26 November to 23 December 2026, when the Gereonstraße stop is closed. Booking, prices and shuttle details are explained below.

Walking times are approximate. Allow additional time for waiting for a tram. On local signs and journey planners, Köln Hbf means Cologne Central Station.

Where can coach passengers get off near Cologne Cathedral?

The main coach drop-off point is on Gereonstraße, between Börsenplatz and Klingelpütz. Use Gereonstraße 16, 50670 Köln in your navigation system. The cathedral is within walking distance. Neither the former coach stop on Komödienstraße nor the public transport bays at Breslauer Platz are available for dropping off your group.

The coach bays are on the northern side of the street, in the direction of Klingelpütz and Christophstraße. You can find the location using this Google Maps pin for the Gereonstraße coach stop. Watch for the adjacent cycle lane when passengers get off.

Our tip for tour leaders and coach drivers: Include the map link in your travel documents and encourage guests to save it on their phones. This makes it easier for anyone exploring independently to return to the agreed pick-up point.

How do you walk from Gereonstraße to Cologne Cathedral?

The route described here is approximately 750 metres from the Gereonstraße coach stop to the main entrance of Cologne Cathedral. Allow around ten to twelve minutes at a normal walking pace, and longer for larger groups or guests using walking aids.

The route towards the cathedral takes you via Unter Sachsenhausen and Komödienstraße, mostly along level pavements. Around Unter Sachsenhausen, you pass through Cologne’s historic banking district, where grand former bank buildings still shape the streetscape.

Parts of the walk follow busy roads with street lighting. Use the traffic lights and pedestrian crossings along the way. Our brewery tours normally start at the Kreuzblume opposite the cathedral’s main entrance, a large stone replica of one of the cathedral’s decorative finials.

What facilities are available at the Gereonstraße coach stop?

There are only a few park benches, nowhere near enough seats for a full coach group. There is no dedicated waiting area or shelter. There is also no kiosk directly at the stop selling snacks or drinks, so suggest that guests buy anything they need before returning to the coach.

On our last visit, there were two basic portable toilet cubicles, similar to those found at outdoor events or building sites. They offer an option for urgent needs, but do not provide the facilities of a permanent toilet block and have limited handwashing options. We cannot confirm that they will always be available.

There are two cafés nearby:

• Café Dudu: Klingelpütz 10, approximately 250 metres or a three-minute walk away.
• Foxy’s Gusto: Gregorius-Maurus-Straße 33, approximately 220 metres or a three-minute walk away.

Check their opening hours and allow time to order and walk back. In wet weather, it is particularly helpful to coordinate the group’s return with the coach’s arrival.

What train, tram and taxi connections are near Gereonstraße?

Appellhofplatz tram station and Cologne Central Station are both within walking distance of the Gereonstraße coach stop. They are useful for guests travelling independently to their hotel or another part of the city.

• Appellhofplatz: Served by KVB lines 3, 4, 5, 16 and 18. KVB is Cologne’s local public transport operator. Follow the signs for your line, as line 5 uses a separate platform area from the other services.
• Cologne Central Station, Köln Hbf: Connections to S-Bahn suburban trains, regional trains and long-distance services. Taxi ranks are also available at the station.

Where do coaches park for Cologne’s Christmas markets in 2026?

From 26 November to 23 December 2026, coaches bringing Christmas market visitors are directed to the Koelnmesse P22 car park in Deutz. The Gereonstraße coach stop is closed throughout this period. Book a parking space in advance through the Koelnmesse eSlot portal, as capacity is limited.

• Standard parking booking: €50 in advance or €55 on arrival, subject to availability.
• 48-hour ticket: €75 in advance or €80 on arrival.
• Entry to P22: From 10 am to 7 pm.
• Exit: Until 11 pm.
• Free shuttle: Route 199 connects P22 with Heumarkt, bus stand D, from 10 am to 10 pm. Coach drivers may also use it.

Shuttles run according to demand rather than at fixed intervals. Allow plenty of time for the return journey, especially on Saturdays. Your coach departs from P22, not from Heumarkt.

The shuttle brings your group close to Heinzels Wintermärchen, the Christmas market at Heumarkt and Alter Markt. At Heumarkt, you will find market stalls and an ice rink surrounding the equestrian monument, making this a convenient first stop.

Guests can then walk to the Christmas market beside Cologne Cathedral or the Markt der Engel at Neumarkt. If you have booked a guided tour, include the walk from the shuttle stop to your meeting point in the itinerary.

How can a brewery tour fit into your Cologne itinerary?

Kölner Kompass brewery tours last around two hours and are available for groups in English or German. By prior arrangement, we can accommodate up to 180 participants, dividing larger parties into smaller groups led by several guides.

By prior arrangement, we can also meet your group at the Gereonstraße coach stop, provided it is available on the day of your visit.
